2010 Family Reunion

IT’S FAMILY REUNION TIME--Sunday, July 25 at noon!
The annual family reunion weekend is coming up on Friday, July 23, through Sunday, July 25, and we hope you all can join us!

IMPORTANT: Family reps for each "clan": Please check with your clan/extended family about attendance at Sunday's picnic and email Larry at lpedersen@frii.com and let him know how many from your clan will be there for the Sunday noon dinner. It would be most helpful for him to have a count so he will know how much beef to purchase and don't run out. Please let him know by July 14. ALSO IMPORTANT: Please forward this on to your children (or family members who don’t have e-mail), as I don’t have e-mail addresses for some of our extended family, especially the great grandchildren.

Schedule of festivities:

Friday night, annual “SMORES” night at Dean and Glenda’s, 7:00 in their backyard at the BBQ pit. They will supply the fixins.

See the new improvements in the cabin--closet renovation and more! Yeah!! Anytime on Friday evening, Saturday after 10:30 a.m. and on Sunday after 10:30 a.m. (Chloris and Donna & Dave will be staying at the cabin, so we need a.m. time to shower and have breakfast.)

Saturday morning, 11:00 a.m. - Third Annual Family Golf Outing
Once again we are gathering together for the annual Saturday Golf Outing. Last year we increased our numbers to 22, with 4 of those being Never-Evers, 6 "I think I know what a putter looks like", and 5 "Do I get to shoot it through a windmill?" So, rest assured, no experience is necessary, only a sense of humor. We play in "experience-adjusted" groups of 4, and play "Best Ball". That is where everyone hits their ball, then everyone drops their ball at the spot where the teammate who went the furthest hit. We give prizes (graciously provided by Jerry Pedersen Inc) for a variety of categories. The bottom line is that it is an event to get everyone together to laugh and have fun. We will be playing 9 holes at the course along Lake Estes, below the Catholic church. Tee times will start at 11:00 am and so we should be all done by 2:00 pm, before the rain clouds show up and in plenty of time to get ready for the Saturday Party. I do need to get an accurate number so I can get enough tee times. So, I am going to ask anyone who is interested to let me know by Jul 15th. Email me at bobslizeski@gmail.com. Hope to see lots of you there!!!

Saturday afternoon—annual family representative meeting, 3:30 p.m. at the cabin. (Becky, Donna, Paul, Chris, Bob, Linda, plus Larry, Dean, & Gordon--Financial report and important things to talk about--please send someone from your family if you can't make it.)

Saturday evening at Warren and Mickie’s home, 5:00 p.m. and on. Bring an appetizer or side dish to share. Warren is going to grill something and will have sodas available. Or BYOB.

Sunday noon, picnic at the picnic grounds--the BIG EVENT! Grandma always loved this day of celebrating and getting together! We will have the usual delicious beef grilled by the oldest cousins and uncles (the tradition). Youngsters can join in and learn the trade! If you don’t want beef, there will be a grill available to grill your own meat that you can bring. Bring a side dish (vegetable, salad, or dessert) to share and your own beverages and tableware. We’ll try to start right at noon due to the afternoon thunderstorms that sometimes come around early afternoon. Don’t forget your lawn chairs. Games (egg tossing contest, water balloons, and more for the little ones--new generation of great greats)

We will divide the cost of the meat by the number of people eating beef, so you might want to bring some cash or your checkbook to contribute for the cost of the beef. I think it usually ends up around $6-$7 each--a real deal! Better that Outback!!!! Plus the company is terrific!!!!

That’s all, folks! Hope to see you there!

Cheers!

Cabin Update

The Family Advisory Committee decided to wait until May/June 2011 to begin renting the cabin during summer months. The FAC wanted to have some things taken care of before we proceeded. June 16-20, Greg and Kathy Pedersen worked on some initial concerns of the FAC: 1) Replace the windows in the bedrooms with egress in case of a fire. 2) Add balusters to the balcony so children would not fall through between them. 3) Add balusters to the redwood deck for same reason. 4) Install a "screen" to prevent children from crawling out and possibly falling from the loft to the sunroom. 5) Add shelving/secure storage to the middle bedroom closet.

Greg replaced the 4 bedroom windows as requested by the FAC. In so doing, the windows are now wider and longer and make for easy egress (escape) in case of a fire. When you see them for the first time, you will see they go to the floor. Because of this, Greg had to add a guard rail at 18" off the floor to prevent anyone from accidentally putting their knee through the glass or a child from running into the glass and getting sliced/diced. Because of the new length, Kathy purchased muslin material and sewed some lower panels for the windows to cover where the original curtains stopped at the old window height. The new windows allow a lot more light and ventilation into the bedrooms. The new windows are vinyl clad casements (crank) and lock tightly so when cold weather comes, we will have a savings on heating costs as the old windows were single pane and had actual daylight and air coming through the worn out corners. The old windows were also so small that most people would not be able to exit through them in an emergency situation.

Greg doubled up the balusters in the balcony and redwood deck areas. He also cut a heavy duty wire bar system to prevent the window in the loft from being a hazard to little children that could have fit through it and fallen into the sunroom.

The middle bedroom has a closet used for storage. The FAC suggested that we make shelving for storage and hanging clothes. Greg put a door on the back side of the closet that can be locked when renting the cabin proceeds so renters don't have access. The "open" part of the closet will be for renter's use such as hanging clothes and keeping linens on hand.

7/6/2010: "All....FYI...Glenda's sister and husband (Gloria and Randy) have been staying in Grandma's cabin this week. Although Ithought this was a vacation for them, Randy likes to keep busy. So....he has painted the window frames on the outside and inside of the new windows as well as some of the other outside window frames. He has painted the new railing balusters on the inside and outside. He sanded and painted the round picnic table and benches on the deck as well as the seats on the patio. He also cleaned the BBQ and raked the pine needles around the house. I told him to come up for air but he may have completed other items I don't know about. Attached is a picture of Randy hard at work painting.

Greg...thanks for completing all of the work you did!
And...thank you Randy!! I'm sure that the family will appreciate all of your hard work!!"

$$$$$$$$$$$

Here are the links to the notes from the family meeting, published by Donna, together with the balance sheet and spreadsheet that Larry prepared. Minutes Financial Trust Balance Sheet . The Family Advisory Committee met on the Saturday of the family reunion at the cabin.

WANTED: Your pictures and family stories for publishing to this website! Please help keep the site fresh and the family informed about your family's news by submitting these to Greg at cohunter53@msn.com . Please, include details with pictures or you may find a story included that you didn't write (see link on left "What Happens When You Don't Send Stories"). Thanks to those that have participated this past year. If you look thru the site, you will find many pages, especially individual family pages, that have not been updated in years. I am sure we all want to know more about family happenings. Karyn did a great job with Kyle's wedding story for the website - a great short (or long) story included with pictures makes for interesting reading. Karyn included notes about Gordon's limo and Jamie's gown.

Cabin Reservation Procedure

The Family Advisory Committee has come up with a different process for reserving the "Cabin". If you want to reserve it, you will first look at the calendar posted on this website to check for availability. If the date you want is open, you will then call the family member responsible for that month. The instructions are listed on the bottom of the month you have opened and includes the name of the person you will call or email to make your request.
