On May 5, 2007, many family members came together
to do a Painting of the cabin interior.

George Whitton doing what he does best! Ahhh, retirement.

Chuck Schneider painting a bedroom.

Larry Pedersen, Dave Koehler, George Whitton, and Abbey Pedersen finishing up a day's work.

Jaime Koehler cutting in the Kitchen window/door.

Actually, George Whitton does work. He also calculated, ordered, and delivered the paint and supplies to the cabin.

Donna Koehler and Larry Pedersen maneuvering the obstacle course.

Bob Slizeski taking on the ceiling in the living room.

The bright red hand rail also got a fresh new coat of paint. Bob Slizeski, Paul Pedersen, and Shirley Pedersen hard at it.

Abbey Pedersen doing her part and then some.

This is the kitchen before any renovation was done.

ABOVE: When Greg tore out the paneling for Paul to run wiring up to the loft, he found this old handrail on the hall side that we used to use when we were kids to climb up into the loft. As you can see, the center part of the handrail is now exposed on the kitchen side, also, to help maintain the character of the original cabin. This should also help with heat circulation within the cabin. Notice the old shelving that was built into the stud spaces many years ago that were uncovered for a short time.

BELOW: The kitchen is now awaiting paint and new tile floor to complete the job.

Joey and Paul Pedersen have spent many hours replacing old wiring and adding new lighting fixtures. Safety was a real issue in the cabin and Paul has added smoke detectors throughout as well as a Carbon Monoxide detector to address these concerns.

Above and Below - This is the loft before Greg finished it off. Paul and Joey stripped off the paneling and rewired this area for safety reasons. There are now doors to all attic spaces for future access. The 3 studs were replaced with a header - see finished loft below.

Paul and Joe found this Health Department card in a stud space after tearing out the paneling. We think it was buried there long before John and Dagmar bought the cabin in the early 1950's (no danger of the disease now). This card was found with a newspaper they used for insulation and it was dated for that time. We hope Paul didn't break the law!

Below are pictures of the loft after Greg finished it off. It was felt by the Advisory Committee that some enhancements needed to be made to make the cabin more inviting for us to want to stay there. The loft as seen below will now be a great place for the children to hang out in comfort once painted and carpeted.

Ready for paint and carpet.

Window and electrical trim is all that is left to do here.

Greg built a new bed area above the entrance to loft - this will have a foam mattress in place so all that will be needed is a sleeping bag. The light on left will be replaced with a track light while the one on the right will be replaced with a smoke detector.
